ANAEMIA Action Start feeding L94 as soon as anaemia is confirmed for 10 days at 100 ml/day and a measure of Trinity Blood Powder. Follow on L94 by feeding A24 Black Gold at 50ml per day. Ensure that Sweet Minerals or Tenderfoot 80 are being fed to provide a good mineral and vitamin status especially if the anaemia is due to neglect. When anaemia is accompanied by low white blood cells feed RACEBACK with L94. Always provide good forage and a suitable auxiliary roughage (Alfalfa based is preferred) TPGS-5 is useful for Anaemia.
APPETITE (Poor) Action To help normalize poor appetite feed L94 for 10 days at 50ml twice daily and if more permanent help is required feed A24 Black Gold at 25ml per feed twice daily after that.
ANTIBIOTICS (Following treatment) Action Even after a relatively short period of prescribed antibiotics follow by feeding L94 for 10 days from their conclusion. If the antibiotic treatment has been anywhere near prolonged, also introduce Prevent Probiotic for 10 days or so to help re-inoculated the intestinal tract but not before the antibiotics has finished.
ANXIETY Action In concert with management efforts to help composure, introduce Mentax, M6 or M54 if competing under FEI rule. For at least two weeks do not attempt anything that will exacerbate worry. Feed for at least a month or longer. See Tension, Bad Behaviour, Belligerence, Nervousness
ARTHRITIS Action Stiffness, muscle ache, tendon and joint problems are more prevalent in damp colder conditions. If it is a concern and it is necessary to do something extra to help maintain freedom and fluidity of movement the following common Trinity formulae may well be useful:
BELGIUM FORMULA This consists of 2 Parts of MSM to 1 part of Glucosamine Hydrochloride. Feed one rounded measure per day to contribute 8g of Glucosamine and 16g of MSM per day.
STRIDE B - Feed at 2 to 3 measures per day. The addition of the Ayurvedic Cope formula for arthritis, stiffness and rheumatic joints adds extra dimensions to the Belgian Formula with regards to inhibiting and voiding joint acid and cholesterol build up.
Notes: The actual discomfort and immobility that beset horses vary from horse to horse and it is our experience that some formulae or combinations of formulae help some horses more than others. Therefore the following notes may be useful
Knocks, kicks or other injuries both internal and external MSM and feed Trinity W14 EQUISETTE and rub in Comfrey Leaf Lotion.
A joint supplement for preventative reasons BELGIUM FORMULA.
When a Glucosamine supplement is indicated - BELGIUM FORMULA.
Horses getting older and having more problems getting up and moving around after rest- STRIDE B.
Performance Horses that are a bit jointy or have been diagnosed with the beginnings of Navicular. STRIDE B
Non-Specific Lameness and general lack of fluid movement STRIDE B
Immobility due to spinal weakness or other bone weakness - BELGIUM FORMULA and ARUN POWDER.
ARTHRITIS (Inflammatory) Action - Although horses do not, it seems, get inflammatory arthritis, gout like Acid accumulation in the joints can be a problem. If it is suspected feed L94 and Belgium Formula. Review things after a month. If it can be established that pain and swelling is due to Calcium salts deposits feed W14 at 25 to 50ml per day and MSM.
ANTI-HISTAMINE Action - Hypersensitivity to pollen is a violent reaction to the foreign proteins contains in the spores. To defend against such allergens the body produces antibodies. If the horse is allergic such defence mechanisms over-react. The reaction has the effect of releasing various chemicals such as histamine which causes irritation and swelling of mucous membranes. Prescribed Anti-Histamine drugs do not work so well with horses however some help can be gained by dampening down inappropriate histamine production in sensitive horses by feed Z70 at 25ml per feed at least twice per day. At peak periods of tree and then flower pollen production also feed one or two measure of Arun Powder.
AZOTORIA see Equine Rhabdomyolysis or Tying Up Action - Feed L94 for 10 days, whilst feeding TPGS-5, then complete the Recovery Package with Hydrobase 'L'.
BAD BEHAVIOUR AT SHOWS Action - Feed 2 x 25 ml of LesstressE in the evening before the show and then 2 x 25ml mixed in the morning feed. Syringe if necessary or if drenching add some warm water and if using a plastic bottle making sure you get it over the tongue. Or Feed M6. See
BELLIGERENCE Action- Along with caring firmness feed Mentax, M6, or M54 if competing under FEI rule, for at least two months and then make an assessment as to the value. If Mg levels are thought to be particularly low top up with a spoonful of Magfluid twice per day. See Tension, Bad Behaviour, Anxiety, Mares, Nervousness
BLEEDERS Action - Feed 6g to 8g of RaceBack per day split into two feeds for a period of at least 10 days or more following bleeding. Feed 8g per day for 10 days before racing and if possible 6g on the morning of the race.
BOXREST Action Reduce dietary starch levels liable to encourage weight gain during the period of non-activity but keep up intake of roughage to ensure intestinal exercise. If digestion and elimination is impaired by immobility feed Western Salts every day. If it is a particular problem also feed a little G59 Strong Condimental. If attitude and demeanour become a problem feed M6 See Tension, Anxiety
BOXREST following a skeletal injury and internal bruising Feed W14 EQUISETTE
BOXREST following a bacterial or viral infection Feed RACEBACK
BOXREST following a tendon injury Feed TENDONITE
BOXREST following a respiratory infection Z70 and ARUN POWDER.
BREEDING Action - Feed STEEL FORCE MINERALS for a month before service. If following a period barren ensure the mare is on a rising plane of nutrition just prior. Continue feeding until grazing is plentiful or if there is a known mineral deficiency in the forage. Feed STEEL FORCE MINERALS during the last three months of gestation and during suckling to both the mare and foal in conjunction with good roughage and cereal if necessary. With hard to breed from mares feed CONCEPTA during the month before serving and VN10 for a month to 6 weeks following service to help stop reabsorption.
BRUISING Action - Feed 25ml per feed twice daily of W14 EQUISETTE and 1 Spoonful of MSM per day. If it bruising can be treated externally rub in Comfrey Leaf Lotion every day
CHRONIC DIAGNOSED PAIN Action All pain must be diagnosed, as it is the body saying there is something wrong. Medical treatment will most probably involve NSAID or Steroidal anti-inflammatories often Phenylbutazone which is highly effective in the short term and works quickly however there can be side effects to such drugs in the long term so it is important to try alternatives for relieving pain. Start feeding Stride B as an adjuvant to prescribed drugs then as they are phased out continue to feed as long as needed. Be prepared to raise the amount of Stride B fed according to need, each horse and each pain is different and whilst some horses are helped by a low level others require higher levels for similar problems.
COLIC Action Feed 25 ml of G59 Strong Condimental Digestive in each feed for as long as there is a danger of Colic to horses prone to the problem. Drench if necessary.
CONSTIPATION Action- In conjunction with plenty of good forage and suitable auxiliary roughage such as Alfalfa chop and Sugar Beet Pulp feed WESTERN SALTS and L94 to facilitate smoother evacuation and improved intestinal function. Temporary constipation may be helped by a two or three day flush of Western Salts. A24 can be very effective in keeping the dung just right.
COMPETITION (Starting) Action - When starting training for active competition add a little good bushel weight boiled/crushed Oats a couple of days after increasing work to the auxiliary roughage and Sweet Minerals if condition is hard to maintain substitute some of the cereal with some Goldenmeal. Ensure Electros is fed after sweating this is especially important if sweat is of a creamy consistency which it maybe at the outset of extra training.
COMPETITION (Regular) Action - Select the best forage and in the most suitable auxiliary roughage (Chop, Pulp etc) feed one spoonful of Sweet Minerals twice a day. In addition feed good bushel weight boiled/ crushed Oats according to the degree of work and Goldenmeal. Ensure Electros is fed after sweating. Excellent results can be got by feeding A24 at 25ml per feed twice daily during training and competition. Any dip in form feed L94 to 10 days and HYDROBASE and feeding TPGS-5 will dramatically improve muscle recovery between competition or runs.
CONCENTRATION Action- Feed Mentax (Powder) or M54 (Fluid) or M6 if not under FEI rule, in each bucket feed for two to three weeks at the positive level and then reduce to the regular level for at least a further 6 weeks or on a continual basis to horses that lack concentration when in training, for Dressage or other competition that demands focus and composure or to ameliorate difficult temperament & incongruent spooking.
CONDITION (Poor due to neglect) Action - Feed L94 at 100 ml for 10 days and then 50 ml for a further 20 days. If tucked up feed Hydrobase with the L94. At the same time start feeding some Goldenmeal 5104 and a little boiled or cooked flaked barley. Feed the best roughage available and a well prepared auxiliary chop or chaff (Alfalfa based preferred) and for mineral and vitamin support feed Sweet Minerals.
CONDITION (Poor despite good feeding) Action - Feed L94 at 100 ml for 10 days and A24 at the same time start feeding Goldenmeal as an addition to a suitable auxiliary roughage and good forage.
CONFINEMENT & CONVALESCENCE Action - Along with good nursing and stable hygiene, it is import to encourage immunity, the genesis of healthy robust cells and regain a healthy metabolic transport system to help the healing of bone, tendon and tissue, reinforce good digestion, nutrient assimilation and waste elimination the key to rejuvenation and good long lasting recovery. To maximize healing in conjunction with Physio or Veterinary treatment feed W14 per day (injury) or TENDONITE (Tendons) RACEBACK (Infection) Continue to provide effective minerals, vitamins and other micronutrients as in SWEET MINERALS (Also see BOXREST)
C O P D Action Feed 25 Z70 in each feed. Z70 cannot reverse C O P D but it can do much to improve the quality of life.
CRIB BITING Action We have yet to find a sure fire solution to established crib biting when it has become a habitual problem. If however it is still in the primary stage feed Strong Condimental Digestive at 2 to 3 spoonfuls per day mixed in each of the bucket feeds this may well stop the practice becoming permanent. The Tympany formula G59 STRONG CONDIMENTAL will also help in this respect fed at 25ml per feed especially if the horse appears bloated and gassy.
CUSHINGS DISEASE Action Feed VN10 at one to two spoons per day on a regular basis with a spoonful of Maglyte or alternatively 2 Spoonfuls of Magfluid. Feed these alongside Veterinarian prescribed drugs (Pergolide is a human drug used in the treatment of Parkinson's disease) to dampen down the ACTH surges. VN10 and MAGFLUID can be the sole support in the early stages of Cushings. P45 or A24 and MAGFLUID can also be useful for nullifying the effects of Cushing that can lead to Laminitis and Colic as too is TPGS-5.
DIARRHOEA
LOOSE DROPPINGS AND EXTRANEOUS BROWN FAECAL FLUID EVACUATION
Ensure sufficient fibre is being fed and any haylage is not too acid (low pH), too high in free nitrogen or mouldy. Ensure that any fatty foods (Linseed etc) are freshly cooked and not rancid if in doubt cut our oils and fats. Current recommended procedure
Be sure it is not caused by worm infestation if worming use an Ivermectin type wormer if not already done
If not already tried, feed a good probiotic (one that shows EU approval on label) according to manufacturers instructions. If from Trinity use PREVENT PROBIOTIC at 25ml twice or three times or more per day.
Mix 2 parts of Sugar to one part of Salt and feed the mixture for three or four days at two Tablespoonfuls (Desert spoon for ponies) every day. One in the morning mixed into the regular bucket feed and again in the evening. If this helps introduce Trinity Electros at similar amounts if no leave off except in hot weather.
If droppings have the semblance of being formed but accompanied by brown liquid (especially if it is foul smelling) feed L94 for 10 days
If the dung is generally homogenous and thick soup like feed Hydrobase and L94 twice per day. Feeding Broad Bran will help or a good handful of dry unmolassed beet Pulp (Do not soak)
If there is sudden anticipatory evacuation occurring feed Hydrobase or M6 in with the regular feed.
The above actions are for when horses or ponies are in good health and thriving despite chronic loose dung. Horses and ponies that suddenly develop diarrhoea/dysenteric scours must be referred to a Veterinarian if at all possible, especially if the horse or pony is off colour and unthrifty.
DEHYDRATION (COMPETITION) A good rule of thumb is feed two spoons of Electros in each of the two feeds following sweating. This rule allows for occasional feeding or if sweating occurs every, or nearly every day then Electros should be fed nearly or every day. Amounts given should not be excessive. The objective should be to provide partial replenishment of the deficits until such time as complete replacement by voluntary consumption occurs.
DEHYDRATION (HOT WEATHER) Action In hot weather feed Western Salts on a daily basis and Electros after daily work.
DERMATITIS Action- Feed S16 for 10 days and Formula 4161 at two or more spoons per day for a month at least. Afterwards feed Sweet Minerals on a permanent basis. See also Skin
DEHYDRATION Action To avoid dehydration in hot weather feed a spoonful of Western Salts every day in addition to the normal diet. If no bucket feed is fed mix Western Salts 50/50 with Ordinary Salt and provide free choice in safe rustless receptacle near the water trough. Clean and replenish on a daily basis. To avoid dehydration following sweating feed Electros or Ten-Four-G. Amounts given should not be excessive the objective should be to provide partial replenishment of that lost until such time as complete dehydration can be achieved by voluntary consumption from the regular diet.
DIGESTION Action Horses like people can have too little or too much digestion resulting in an under or over active gut with accompanying unthriftness, constipation or diarrhoea, gaseousness, bloating, fluid evacuation, stomach-ache and colic. Help can be provided by stimulating the digestive system or by pacifying it. In each case helping to regularize digestion can be instituted through general feeding and management and supplementation. At each stage from appetite through to absorption and elimination there can be variations from the norm reinforcing the fact that there is no one single way but a number of different ways of helping improve and correct digestion
A24 is demulcent and anti-acid soothing pacifying excessive digestive fire. WESTERN SALTS helps regularize constipated horses, smoothing elimination and reducing gut pains. G59 STRONG CONDIMENTAL helps reduce gaseous dissention (Tympany) and bloating which can result in sluggishness and can lead to colic. The discomfort of trapped gas may also be a precursor to cribbing and wind sucking. Helps in the cases of intestinal soreness and damage.
DRESSAGE Action - The essence is that of controlled power. Sweet Minerals will give all the essential minerals and vitamins and other nutrients whist keeping up appearances. Feed plenty of good forage and suitable auxiliary roughage. Feed a small quantity of cereal to support calorie requirement for work or Goldenmeal 5104, which will give extra stamina with more control. Mentax can be invaluable in promoting concentration and focus.
ELECTROLYTES Action A good rule of thumb is to feed two spoons of Electros in each of the two feeds following sweating. This rule allows for occasional exertion or if sweating occurs every day. For horses that need Electrolyte supplementation during competition such as Endurance riding and Eventing feed Ten-Four-G.
EQUINE METABOLIC SYNDROME (EMS) Action Please see Cushings
ENDURANCE Action Train on a diet of good forage, a suitable auxiliary roughage (Alfalfa Chop/ Pulp etc) and a spoonful in each feed of Sweet Minerals. Depending on circumstances also feed a small quantity good bushel weight oats and Hydrobase especially for 40-mile rides and over. Hydrobase helps the metabolism and will help in making sure that the horse enters the next ride without any debts inherited from the previous one. If Hydrobase is not being fed make sure Travel Mixture is fed four days before and whilst away from home stables. Feed Ten-Four G electrolyte during the ride and in the two meals following it. For extra performance throughout the season feed A24 Black Gold at 25ml per feed twice daily.
ENDURANCE (After a gruelling ride) Action Exertion will always result in metabolites being thrown off the engine so to speak and these take time to be got rid of via the blood, the liver and the kidneys, until then degrees of stiffness and unfitness will prevail. To speed recovery feed L94 for 5 days after a hard ride at 100 ml per day and 2 teaspoonfuls per day for the rider in a little water if A24 Black Gold is not being fed on a regular basis. Feed TPGS-5 for optimum muscle recovery between runs.
EPIPHYSITIS Action At the outset of Epiphysitis recheck mineral levels in the diet and degrees of stress. As soon as possible begin feeding Recovery Minerals at about 60g per day. Then for the long term feed STEEL FORCE MINERALS. Reduce fast developing feeds. If it can be seen that Epiphysitis is a result of change in feed, management, environment, company etc also feed Travel Mixture. Epiphysitis is inflammation of the epiphysis or the cartilage that separates it from the shaft during growth.
Equine Rhabdomyolysis - See, Tying Up.
EYES (WATERY) Action Hypersensitivity of the eyes caused by dust, grass or flower pollens. (Hay fever) Sometimes with nasal discharge. Feed Z70 when eyes are affected by pollen. (See Antihistamines). Feed Sweet minerals to make sure sufficient Vitamin A is being fed.
EVENTING Action The mixture of disciplines that the sport entails means feeding cannot be haphazard. The system of feeding Sweet Minerals and then good bushel weight Oats is ideal. It allows the right level of energy to be fed without feeding too much or too little of those nutrients that are needed for life itself. Feed some GOLDENMEAL if condition or weight is a problem and Electros in the two meals following sweating. For 3 Day eventers feed Travel Mixture during the whole time away from home stables and TPGS-5 for optimum recovery of exercise induced oxidative muscle stress between runs.
FEAR Action Be very gentle with horses that are fearful whether it be irrational or not. Never surprise them in any way and always announce your presence. Feed M6 whilst trying to relieve any tension. If you know fear is going to or likely to occur due to an impending stress such as moving to a new stables or being parted from a loved companion then feed F15 for 10 days in advance of the unavoidable trauma. See Tension, Bad Behaviour, Anxiety, Belligerence, Nervousness
FEED BALANCER The term Feed Balancer is a term that became fashionable in the late 80s and has now become a way of defining a compact feed supplement that when added to a diet of roughage meets the horses requirement for minerals, vitamins, trace elements and in some cases the essential amino acids Lysine and Methionine. Such feeds are particularly suitable for winter-feeding. From Trinity they are-:
SWEET MINERALS - Fed at 60 to 80g per day this is the lowest amount feed - Various formulae according to seasonal changes.
TENDERFOOT 80 A complete mineral, Vitamin and amino acid balancer with extra emphasis on hoof growth and integrity.
STEEL FORCE MINERALS A complete balancer for Pregnant and suckling mares and young stock
INDIVIDUALLY MADE BESPOKE FORMULAE - These are made for the individual horse or horses following discussion on requirements, what is already being fed etc and in the case of studs often on forage mineral analysis reports. A statutory notification detailing the full formula and the gross price is issued and labels with full feeding instructions.
FERTILITY Action Do not be tempted to get the Mare in to good a condition prior to service instead it is better to be in plain shape a month before service and then institute a rising plain of nutrition for the month before she is served. To help ensure this and good reproductive cleanliness feed Trinity Concepta every day for the month prior and for a week or so till confirmed in foal. To ensure correct levels of Minerals and Vitamins are being fed feed Steel Force Minerals with adequate quantities of good roughage and some auxiliary roughage in the form of Alfalfa Chop especially if grazing is restricted.
FILLED LEGS Action Filled legs that go down when the horse goes out is not generally regarded as seriously as full blown Lymphangitis but is still due to lymph damage and can be the beginnings of a larger fluid retention problem so it is worth considering helping clear stagnation and congestion with L94 or if deemed more serious with B50 which is L94 with one or too extras specifically for Lymphangitis.
FRACTURES Action Feed W14 to help rapid healing of fractures and accelerate mitosis (cell division). Feed approximately 50ml per day ideally with a good spoonful of Honey. For long term recovery feed Tendonite.
FLY BITES Action Apply Noof sparingly to fly bites every day or so till healed. The natural antifungal, antiseptic and fly repellent properties of NOOF, AZ WASH OR Sitaphal Mixture make it ideal for applying to the haircoat, legs, manes and tails to help deter and dampen down reaction to fly bites. To start apply daily with spray or cloth to build up a film on the hair coat and skin then use every two or three days as necessary. Make up AZ Wash by adding 50 ml of concentrate to a litre of water
FLY IRRITATION Action Apply NOOF AZ WASH or Sitaphal Mixture either by spray or sponge to those areas constantly plagued by flies. Many Horse Owners have their own special recipe for flies AZ WASH can be added to such mixtures to enhance their effectiveness. Noof is applied as oil Noof Liquid is supplied in concentrate form for dilution in water.
FLEXURE (Lack of) Action Feed Stride B for a month to see improvement in elasticity. See also Joints
FLUID DISCHARGE Action See Diarrhoea
FOUL FAECAL ODOUR Also see Diarrhoea Action Feed L94 or G59 at 100 ml for 10 days. Do not be alarmed if during that period the dung becomes even more putrid smelling for a while
GASEOUS TYMPANY Action Feed G59 STRONG CONDIMENTAL at one spoonful three times per day for a week or so then feed two spoons per day as necessary. If possible substitute hay with haylage and avoid too rich grazing.
GLANDS (SWOLLEN) Action The accumulation of undischarged wastes can result in unwanted tissue formation preparing the background for future chronic illnesses such as arthritis. L94 is anti-scrofulous formula, designed to both stimulate the immune system and to help precipitate out unfiltered toxins from the lymph nodes. Glands that come up when the horse goes out to grass but go down again when back in can be tolerated. If however glands say up then it is helpful to feed L94 at 100ml per day for 10 days followed, if necessary by 50 ml for a further 20 days.
HEADSHAKING Feed Y30 as soon as the habit is noticed and continue to feed till well past the time it stops.
HEART (Weakness) Action - Feed Heart 37 at 75 to 100 ml per day in conjunction with adequate amounts of good roughage and an increased level of Magnesium (Magfluid. Hydrobase M, Maglyte). Research shows that Magnesium significantly helps in left ventricular failure and in stronger heart thrust.
HEAVY METAL TOXICITY Action- Together with any advice from the Vet start feeding L94 at 100ml/day for 10 days followed by a period of 20 days at 50ml per day as soon as it is suspected that the Horse has consumed or been unusually exposed to pollution of heavy metals. Depending on the severity of the situation feed after a 2-week gap feed a further 50 ml per day for a further 20 days. Accumulated poisoning from Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, Arsenic etc can occur from inadvertent consumption of dressed seed corn, industrial contamination, contaminated ground water from dumped electrical goods and batteries, pesticides etc leads to fatigue, non-specific lameness, joint pain, lowered immune status and unthriftness. Lead Toxicity can lead to disruption of neurotransmitters in the brain causing nervous excitability and aggression L94 helps voidance by internally chelating each metal and cleansing tissues. ARUN POWDER will also help in voiding heavy metals from the body.
HOOVES (Poor growth & integrity) Action Feed TENDERFOOT 80 as part of a diet adequate in good quality forage and suitable auxiliary roughage such as Alfalfa chop. As TENDERFOOT 80 Formula is "Complete" in complementary Minerals & Vitamins it obviates the need for further supplementation of mins & vits within the total diet. For Overseas clients and if feeding Sweet Minerals feed 2 spoons of the 4161 Concentrated Foot Formula
HIVES Action L94 usually helps dispel transient eruptions and watery swellings that may be a reaction to environmental irritants, from plants, insect stings and dietary fats/oil. Cut down on rich feeds and try to identify any sudden changes that have occurred in feeding, the environment or by the presence of biting flies. For horses that are prone to hives feed Western Salts on a daily basis at one to two spoonfuls per day helps.
HYPERTENSION Action Ensure that the horse is fed adequate daily levels of Mg (Magfluid, Maglyte etc). Alternatively if a stressful event can be foreseen where Hypertension is likely to occur (Fireworks Night etc) feed F15 nine to ten days prior. See Tension, Bad Behaviour, Anxiety, Belligerence, Nervousness
IMMUNITY Action To return to good health following a viral infection/challenge feed RACEBACK for 12 to 14 days or longer if necessary. If only anaemia is diagnosed or suspected also feed a measure per day of Blood Powder every day. For long term immunity feed A24 and or TPGS-5.
INTESTINAL SENSITIVITY Action Feed 25ml per feed of A24 for its gentle, demulcent, rehabilitating action on the G I. Offer good forage on an ad libitum basis and suitable auxiliary roughage in which the A24 can be mixed. Alternatively feed Prevent Probiotic with Schindele's minerals for gastric ulcers and digestive unbalance. See also Ulcers Stomach
ITCHING (General - no parasites) Action Introduce Berberine Mixture or if a degree of dehydration is occurring, Feed S16 whilst itching prevails at two spoonfuls per day. S16 helps facilitate free circulation by removing congestion and improving the quality of blood. WESTERN SALTS help to maintain hydration and freedom from non-parasitic skin irritation. Regularly spray with NOOF AZ Wash and when needed and possible shampoo with Noon Shampoo and cleanser. See also - Skin
ITCHING SPOTS Action Rub in a little Noof on to any little itchy rough area of skin and small abrasions. Noof will stain brown for a few days.
JOINT PAIN Action Feed STRIDE B at two spoonfuls per day with the regular feed when the joint is hot and inflamed. Massaging with Comfrey Leaf Lotion will help a lot.
JOINTS CLICKING or CREAKING Action It will take a month or so to stop, feed 2 good spoons of BELGIUM FORMULA. If joints are more of a concern feed Stride B.
KIDNEY (Chronic malcondition) Action Feed K63 for a ten day period at 100ml per day followed by 50ml per day for a further 20 days if necessary. Feed K63 as a stonebreaker along in with the regular feed for 2 Months or feed K8 for a period to expel stones and ease painful urination.
JOINTS (SWOLLEN) Action Feed L94 at 100ml for 10 days to help in the clearing of toxins then Stride B for at least a month or more and longer if necessary. Massage with Comfrey Leaf Lotion at least twice per day.
LAMENESS (Non specific) Action If despite investigations from Therapists no actual reason can be established feed L94 for 20 days concurrent with 2 spoonfuls of STRIDE B or TENDONITE in cases on pulled tendons.
LAMINITIS (ACTUAL) Action For horses and ponies actually suffering from laminitis feed L94 at 100 ml per day for ten days and if necessary for a little longer. Then follow this with P45 (Liquid) this can be combined in danger times with feeding TPGS-5 at 10ml per day.. Recovering from an attack of laminitis takes time however if gradual recovery seems to stick also feed BLOOD POWDER at a measure per day. Feeding Western Salts regularly is the first precaution that can be taken against the occurrence of Laminitis and if fed every day can well be the only precaution against the problem, stopping the problem developing into a situation where other measures have to be taken.
LAMINITIS (PREVENTION) Action To help prevent Laminitis feed P45 (Liquid) every day as part of each bucket feed fed, raising the amount whenever there is a strong likelihood of a relapse, this can be combined in danger times with feeding TPGS-5 at 10ml per day.
LAMINITIS (DUE TO CUSHINGS) Action Due to the unpredictability of Cushings disease Laminitis is an ever-present danger to Cushings horses. To this end feed P45 (Liquid) with 30ml of VN10 every day as part of each bucket feed fed, raising the amount whenever there is a strong likelihood of an onset, Hydrobase 'L' and TPGS-5 are useful formulae in this instance.
LEPTOSPIROSIS Action Feed L94 at 100 ml for 10 day and then 50 ml for a further 20 days. For long term feeding feed S16 at 25ml per feed twice per day.
LISTLESSNESS Action - Investigate the possibility of a virus and subsequent low blood counts. Alternately it may be due to cellular water/mineral imbalance. Feed L94 for 10 days at 100 ml per day and on Day 3 start feeding Hydrobase for a fortnight then review the situation. If it is decided that some longer-term action is needed to prevent reoccurrence in performance horses feed A24 and Hydrobase whilst in training or feed TPGS-5 with the L94 prior to racing or competition and then for 5 days after the event.
LIVER DAMAGE Action Feed L94 at 100 ml for 10 day and then 50 ml for a further 20 days. For long term feeding feed A24 particularly to performance horses.
LIVER FLUKE Action Feed L94 at 100 ml for 10 day and then 50 ml for a further 20 days. Feed A24 on a regular basis if there has been long term liver damage.
LETHARGY Action- Start feeding 50 ml of L94 twice a day in a little feed and then on day 3 introduce 3 spoons of Hydrobase. Feed these together till the tenth day then continue with the Hydrobase for at least a further 4 days. Afterwards feed A24 on a regular and Electros/Ten-Four-G when necessary. - see also Muscle soreness
LOOSE DROPPINGS Please see Diarrhoea
LYMPHANGITIS Action- Feed B50 until it subsides which will start to happen after feeding for 4 or 5 days sometimes sooner but because swellings can go down in one place to emerge in another keep feeding for 12 day or more at 75ml per feed twice per day. B50 helps clear and clean and maintain a healthy lymphatic system. For horses prone to filled legs and oedemas feed A24 on a regular basis at 25ml twice per day.
MARES SEASONS (DISRUPTIVE) Action Feed 15 to 20ml per feed twice daily of VN10. VN10 acts on the anterior pituitary gland, reducing FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) and increasing LSH (Luteum stimulating hormone|). It combines with other substances in the body to produce progesterone secreted in the ovary by the corpus Luteum balancing water retention, nervous tension, irritability and mood swings associated with low progesterone output and/or oestrogen excess. Feed F15 to the spirited mare or to help with 'grounding' without dampening performance.
MARES (DIFFICULT) Action There are some stressful mares that are difficult to get right especially for regular competition. If it is hormonal in origin feeds VN10 and Magfluid or Maglyte in conjunction with good roughage and daily Minerals and Vitamins. Magfluid and VN10 can be mixed together as TRINITY ATTITUDE ADJUSTER.
MUSCLE (torn) Action Feed 2 Spoonfuls of TENDONITE to ensure that healing is strong and effective and not liable to be a weak point in the future. To speed the healing process also feed W14 especially during the first few weeks of confinement.
MUSCLE TENSION - see also Muscle Soreness Action Feed L94 for 10 days and on DAY 4 OR 5 start feeding Hydrobase for 21 days. Continue with Hydrobase T With some horses especially those in competition it may well be prudent to keep them on Hydrobase for longer and feed A24 at 25ml per feed twice per day..
MINERALS Action - The importance of sufficient minerals in the daily diet of the horse cannot be overstated. The development and maintenance of strong bone and muscle is dependant upon them along with good resistance to disease and the ability to replenish and when necessary heal tissue and membrane. A good proportion of the horses requirement for minerals is for life itself irrespective of work so it is therefore good practice to ensure that a regular quantity is fed every day. Feed SWEET MINERALS (For adult horses), STEEL FORCE MINERAL (breeders and youngstock), TENDERFOOT 80 (For horses with poor hooves)
MUD FEVER Action EXTERNAL
1. Spray or rub NOOF daily onto infected and surrounding area till no further outbreaks occur. if it is a small area lightly rub in NOOF or AZ WASH (Noof soluble) straight from the bottle if it covers a larger area Mix AZ Wash with water and spray on or douche with a suitable cloth or sponge.
2. As the Mud Fever recedes Comfrey Leaf Lotion can be lightly applied to soften scabs which will break up to reveal new tender skin beneath, protect this by continuing to apply Comfrey Leaf for a little while.
MUD FEVER Action INTERNAL
MUSCLE SORENESS Feed L94 at 50 ml per day for 20 days concurrent with Hydrobase. Rubbing with Comfrey Leaf Lotion will also help if possible. If necessary feed A24 on a regular basis at 25ml per feed twice per day or continue with Hydrobase during competition or arduous training, ensuring an electrolyte such as Electros is fed for 3 days after heavy sweating.
MUSCLE TENSION Action Feed L94 for 10 days. On day 4 or 5 for introduce Hydrobase and continue feed it for 21 days or if necessary for longer. If necessary feed A24 on a regular basis at 25ml per feed twice per day.
NAVICULAR Action Feeding Stride B on a daily basis will help prolong activity for some considerable time by slowing degeneration however it will not in the end avoid the step down deterioration process which occurs in the long term. Remarkable results have been achieved feeding Stride B, A24 Black Gold and Tendonite.
NERVOUSNESS Action Feed M6 at 25ml per feed twice per day. If engaged in competition under rules then withdraw 14 days before hand and replace with M54, Magfluid, Crazy Horse or LesstressE.
NEW STABLES Action If at all possible add 3 spoonfuls of Travel Mixture to the regular feed for about four days before moving and for a period of 7 days after arriving at the new stables or M6 if not under FEI rule.
'Not Quite Right' Action Feed any time when it is thought Hydrobase 'L' will help. No harm can come by it and feeding Hydrobase 'L' very often stops secondary and tertiary problems occurring such as; Muscle stiffness and tying up; Lethargy; Excess urination; Uncharacteristic behaviour; Non-parasitic itching; Fence or wood eating; Poor appearance despite care and attention.
OFF FORM Action Whenever it is suspected or known that fit horse has become under par feed L94 at 100 ml for a week to ten days plus Hydrobase at 2 to 3 spoons per day for 14 to 21 days. A24 will help maintain form throughout the season.
OLD HORSES Action The way in which Sweet Minerals helps nutrients into resistant cells is an added reason for feeding Sweet Minerals to old horses. A24 is also particularly suitable for elderly horses gently helping an often less than optimum liver function. Feeding one to two spoonfuls of STRIDE B every day can significantly help mobility.
OPEN KNEES Action This is caused by Epiphysitis and appears as a concave to the front of or immediately above the knee. Feed plenty of good roughage but cut back on energetic developing feeds (if not already done at the onset of puffy joints). Feed STEEL FORCE MINERALS.
OSTEOCHONDRITIS Action When osteochondosis is observed recheck mineral levels in the total diet and consider any degrees of undue stress. As soon as possible begin feeding STEEL FORCE MINERALS. Reduce fast developing feeds. If it can be seen that the condition follows a change in feed, management, environment, company etc also feed Travel Mixture. Osteochondritis is inflammation of both bone and cartilage.
OSTEOMALACIA Action Osteomalacia is the softening of bones in adult horses due to mineral and vitamin deficiency. Should the management of a horse suffering from this condition be taken on feed TENDERFOOT 80 along with plentiful levels of good roughage. Do not attempt to increase weight until after the problem has been reversed.
PIN WORMS Action Not a serious hazard but can cause intense irritation around the anal area which lead to tail rubbing and sometimes infection. If suspected send scraping for identification and advice. Sometimes seen during routine worm count if they have dropped back onto the dung. Can often be mistaken for Sweet Itch. Pinworms are Oxyuris equi.
PKD (Progressive Potassium Depletion) Action Feed 2 to 3 Spoons of Hydrobase'L' for 21 days, introducing it on day 4 or 5 after starting a 10-day course of L94. Common in performance horses, PKD (Progressive Potassium Depletion) can also be the reason for touchiness, mood swings and early fatigue in pleasure horses.
POISONING Action Feed L94 or if necessary drench with 100 ml for at least ten consecutive days after consumption of Ragwort, spray chemical contaminated forage and other toxins.
POST-VIRAL PROBLEMS Action Feed L94 for 10 days at 100ml per day and ten at 50 ml for a further 20 days. Follow this by feeding A24 for a month or for as long as required. If RBC is down feed BLOOD POWDER at a measure per day and if White Cells are compromised feed RACEBACK for 12 day or more followed by A24 Black Gold at 25ml per feed twice per day. Feed TPGS-5 for recovery and to increase the shelf life of blood cells.
PERFORMANCE Action Although it is undoubtedly true that a good horse on mediocre feed will beat a poor horse on good feed neither will beat a good horse on good feed. One way of ensuring that the nutrients fed are best utilized and assist the horse to the maximum is to add A24 to the diet. A24 imparts a special degree of well-being and extra health that is reflected in appearance and performance. A24 helps the metabolism of fats, carbohydrate and proteins and can also be formulated to help other specific needs of an individual horse, the circumstances in which it is in and the demands placed upon it. Feeding Hydrobase'L' will help pick-up competition horses when they are 'not quite right'.
PICKY FEEDERS Action Feed L94 to Picky feeders needing a Pick-me-up or who have blood, liver or Kidney malfunction
RAIN SCALD Action Apply Noof every two or three days until the condition clears up. For horses prone to Rain Scald feed S16 at 25ml per feed twice per day and if nutrition has been neglected also feed FORMULA 4161 for at least 2 months.
RESPIRATORY (COUGH & DISCHARGE) Action Feed Z70 for at least two weeks or longer. the cough may well be suppressed quite quickly but for deep down congested horses it may take 10 days before thick mucus is brought up. For respiration problems due to an allergic reaction feed a bespoke formula in each bucket feed for as long as the allergy prevails.
RESPIRATORY (ALLERGY) Action The first step is to feed 25 ml per feed twice daily of Z70 for 20 days to help remove the toxins from the respiratory system. This involves loosening the impurities embedded in the trachea and helping them to liquefy so as to allow smooth elimination. The next step is to help open the channels of circulation so that the system gets maximum nourishment and protection by feeding Z70 for as long as the horse is predisposed to the problem.
RACING - Action Amongst the many bespoke formulations made by Trinity the formulae listed below are consistently helping horses to win races

L94 Liver Tonic and general Pick-Me-Up. Use at beginning of serious training at any time horses appear off form during training. Feed after the virus, when worming and after any upset or whenever in doubt. Some feed in the last week before racing. Liquid
HYDROBASE For maintaining important cellular balance in both the brain and the muscle. Feed daily during the height of training and in conjunction with L94 for all muscle problems. Powder
TPGS-5 - pioneered by Eastman Kodak for human application in situations where fat soluble Vitamin E cannot be easily absorbed and is particularly relevant to Equines which along with the Elephant and Black Rhino produce bile with a different composition to humans and other mammals. Absorption of Vitamin E in these species is very inefficient and TPGS allows Vitamin E to be much more readily absorbed into the blood and distributed to the tissues to combat Exercise Induced Oxidative Stress in Muscles & is the critical component of all cells. Liquid
GOLDENMEAL - For feeding for extra power, growth and condition in addition to the regular diet without effecting temperament. Ideal for giving to the individual that needs extra muscle tone and development. Feed when needed on an occasional or regular basis. Powder
A24- For digestion, assimilation and elimination the efficient working of which permeates to the entire system. Feed when needed as a course or on a regular basis. Used frequently as a performance booster, as horses that have completed having a bottle of A24, are more vigorous. Liquid
Z70 - A most useful additive to the diet to support optimum respiratory function and oxygen intake in horses prone to breathing allergies and less than required lung function. Liquid
RACEBACK - A reliable anti-bleeder formula added at teaspoonful amounts to the existing diet and blood-builder. Powder
TEN-FOUR-G A unique electrolyte formula with 10% added L-Glutamine that is the power source of the immune system. Particularly advantageous as part of a programme to get horses back on the track after a viral upset.. Soluble Powder
NB. It is not the contention of Trinity Consultants to simply formulate that which is already easily and plentifully available to Owners and Trainers through proprietary sources instead the intention is to provide alternatives based on our own practical research and experience.
RACING (The week prior to) Action For some horses, especially those with indifferent appetite and nervous disposition, it can be a good idea to feed an elevated level of B complex vitamins with high folic acid content for a week prior to racing. Ideal for this is B-MIXTURE, which includes a complete range of B complex vitamins on an osmolyte base. Start feeding at two spoons per horse per day for 7 clear days before running.
RECOVERY (FROM INJURY) Action Feed TENDERFOOT 80 in conjunction with adequate quantities of good forage and auxiliary chop TENDERFOOT 80 supports effective remineralisation, optimising the healing of connective tissue, cartilage, arteries, tendons, ligaments, bone and skin, functioning as a cross-linking agent between elastin and collagen fibres. This formula is designed to help healing and speed the consolidation of fractures. W14 (liquid) can also be fed.
RESPIRATORY (ALLERGY) Action Feed 2 Spoonfuls per day of Z70 and two spoons of Arun Powder split into two feeds. Feed for as long as problem prevails.
SARCOIDS Action Lightly spray with PNX Spray keeping the Sarcoid moist as much as possible. To start with nothing will seem to happen then gradually the Sarcoids appear to give up the fight and start to go. Experience shows that one of the benefits of PNX spray is that once gone Sarcoids do not seem to reappear as is often the case. Noof can be effective on some types of small wart-like Sarcoids and Warts themselves.
SCOURING See Diarrhoea
SCURF Action Make up a quantity of Noof AZ WASH from the concentrate and work into the mane & tail and wash other parts of the effected. Let dry naturally. Repeat everyday that its fine. Every week shampoo mane & tail with Head & Shoulders shampoo and then start again till scurf has gone. Help skin health form within by feeding Sweet Minerals on a regular basis. In bad cases feed FORMULA 4161 for at least a month or two. See also skin.
SHARPNESS - See Tension, Bad Behaviour, Anxiety, Belligerence, Nervousness
SHOWING Action Condition, Presence, Topline, Fluidity of Movement as well as good behaviour can all be helped by feeding Sweet Minerals and Goldenmeal in conjunction with good forage and suitable auxiliary roughage. Mentax, M54 or LesstressE fed the night before the show and if possible in the morning will help those horses liable to misbehave. For maintaining special presence feed A24 at 25ml per feed twice per day.
SHOWJUMPING Action Despite nutrition being thought of as being less important than for other disciplines good feeding is worthwhile especially if there is a busy calendar. If condition is hard to maintain displace add a Mugful of some GOLDENMEAL per feed this increases the overall energy density of the diet and gives stamina without loosing control, TPGS-5 will help muscles recover between classes and competition fed at 10 ml per day.
SKIN (Poor & Dry) Action- Check for possible Zinc deficiency or lock up in the total diet. FORMULA 4161 fed at 2 Spoonfuls per day along with the regular feed will help reinforce skin and haircoat metabolism by directly helping skin and haircoat growth and structural function and by optimising liver function (very often a factor in poor skin) and general health by acting as a gentle on-going detoxifier.
SKIN - GUIDE TO TOPICAL APPLICATIONS
A-Z WASH (Soluble Noof) For washing over or spraying to keep skin in good order free from fungal infections and to discourage flies. Good to spray manes, tails and feathers when combing through. An emulsion Dilute 25ml (one spoon) in 1 Lt of clean water. Good for Rain Scald and Sweet Itch.
SITAPHAL MIXTURE - Alternative to A-Z Wash for deterring flies. Good with local and Crab flies less so with Midges but still useful. An emulsion Dilute 25ml (one spoon) in 1 Lt of clean water.
NOOF for spot applying to fly bite bites, thrush and general sores, harness burns and abrasions. Anti-fungal. Excellent for making up into a paste with Copper Sulphate crystals and packing into infected hoof cavities. Careful to start with on sensitive horses. Can be applied to warts
PNX SPRAY - For Sarcoids. Puff just enough to moisten the Sarcoid as many time per day as possible.
COMFREY LEAF LOTION - Apply to cuts, cracks, sores, splints, fractures, rubs, swellings, kicks and sprains. A universal lotion or cream that speeds the healing process and improves cell division and repair.
SPOOKINESS Action- Feed M6, Crazy Horse or Hydrobase M for a fortnight at the positive level and then if possible reduce to a regular level for the rest of the month. Then assess the situation. If the Spookiness has disappeared now feed Maglyte or Magfluid daily See Tension, Bad Behaviour, Anxiety, Belligerence, Nervousness
SUN BURN Action Apply Noof sparingly to sun burnt areas and to parts of the body that are at risk. Alternatively the Comfrey Leaf Cream can be used.
STRESSFUL PERFORMANCE HORSES Action . Feed MAGFLUID or MAGLYTE as an extra Mg source or alternatively M54 will benefit, increasing concentration without depressing vitality. See Tension, Bad Behaviour, Anxiety, Belligerence, Nervousness
SWEET ITCH Action Start feeding S16 (Liquid) or BERBERINE MIXTURE (Powder) a month before the flies arrive to horses and ponies known to be susceptible to Sweet Itch and Formula 4161 for deeper seated skin problems. See also Skin
SURGERY (Post) Action Feed RACEBACK for at least 14 days after Surgery mixed into small amounts of regular feed along with L94 at 100ml per day for 10 days.
TAPE WORMS Action If a chemical wormer is not used feed EMBELIN SYRUP (2:5-dihydroxy-3-lauryl-p-benzoquinone) in the feed for about 20 days in the autumn and if thought necessary late in the following spring or at any other time. Tapeworms are greyish-white segmented worms found in the intestines of horses throughout the world. Segments and eggs are past in the horses faeces onto grass in the pastures. Oribatid mites that live in the grass eat the eggs, which develop in the mites. These mites climb onto the blades of grass and are then ingested by the horse where they develop into adult tapeworms, which continue the cycle. Generally the highest level of infection is found in late summer. Use EMBELIN SYRUP for a period during the spring and summer and again in the autumn to help control tape worms. The levels of oribatid mites become less during the winter months especially during frosty conditions. A horse is unable to be infected without the mite as a primary host.
TEMPERAMENT - See Tension, Bad Behaviour, Anxiety, Belligerence, Nervousness
TENSION (Extreme) Action- Feed F15 (especially helpful for mares) for 10 days prior to moving or undertaking a task that will result in wildness and extreme stress to a susceptible horse. Allow 9 days to return to previous temperament. Alternatively for Competition feed M6 if outside FEI rule or Magfluid as an alternative or Crazy Horse. Mentax is too helpful fed in advance of expected change or stressful periods. See Bad Behaviour, Anxiety, Belligerence, Nervousness
THRUSH Action Apply Noof every few days with a 1/4" Paintbrush getting it well into crevices. To make a paste mix Noof with copper sulphate to pack into infected clefts.
TOPLINE (Poor despite feeding) Action - Ensure the horse is never out of good forage. Feed L94 at 100 ml for 10 days and then introduce two mugfuls of GOLDENMEAL per feed up to three times per day substituting the existing concentrate feed by the same amount and continue with A24 Black Gold to ensure dietary utilisation.
TUCKED UP Action If the horse is tucked up following activity feed 2 Spoonfuls of Trinity Electros in the regular feed for a week. If it is tucked up and has not been involved in much activity carry on feeding the regular diet but add 100 ml of L94 and Hydrobase for 10 days. Resolve to change the diet is it is a frequent occurrence. For the longer term feed A24.
TYING UP - Set Fast - Azotoria (Equine Rhabdomyolysis) -
ACUTE Action As soon as possible start feeding L94 for a period of not less than 10 days at 100ml per day ( 2 x 50ml) and on Day 5, in addition, start feeding Hydrobase at a Spoonful (25ml) and one teaspoonful of TPGS-5 in each feed. Continue until all three have run out. Depending on individual circumstances replace L94 with P45 50ml per day on Day 10.
CHRONIC Action In conjunction with good feeding ensure 50ml per day of REXFLO or A24 if fed (important). If muscles are seriously compromised feed TPGS-5 on a regular basis.
Tying up prevention - If Tying up is considered an ever present threat whilst the horse is in competition, feed P45 at 25ml twice per day along with TPGS-5. When conditions get back to normal continue the feeding of L94 and Hydrobase 'L'.
TYMPANY Action An accumulation of gas often distends parts of the intestinal tract making horses appeared pot bellied and of feeling sluggish and bloated. Serious flatulence can lead to colic. The discomfort of trapped gas may also be a precursor to cribbing and wind sucking. To help lower the formation and discourage trapped wind feed G59 Strong Condimental at 2 to 3 Spoonfuls per day split within as many daily feeds as possible.
ULCERS (Stomach) Action Feed A24 for at least a month preferably longer for healing and other factors such as gaseous control, digestion, Liver function, Stress tolerance, Tissue rejuvenation, Anthelmintic action. The anti-ulcer activity in A24 increases the production of protective stomach mucus, suppresses intestinal inflammation blocking certain prostaglandin chemicals and blunt the release of inflammatory chemicals. Alternatively feed Prevent Probiotic plus Schindele's especially when there is a lot of intestinal discomfort.
URTICARIA Action L94 usually helps dispel transient eruptions and watery swellings that may be a reaction to environmental irritants, from plants, insect stings and dietary fats/oil. Alternatively (or after 10 days of L94) feed B50 for a further 10 days or longer if necessary. Cut down on rich feeds and try to identify any sudden changes that have occurred in feeding, the environment or by the presence of biting flies.
VACCIN0SIS Action Should you know that your horse reacts to vaccination feed Thuja & Echinacea liquid 2 to 3 days before vaccination and for 10 days afterwards. This will help avoid the sometimes chronic indefinite ill-health.
VIRUS (Following the) Action To return to good health following a viral infection/challenge. Feed L94 at 100ml per day for at least 10 Days and a further 50 ml for the next twenty days in necessary and or in conjunction with TPGS-5. If weather is hot feed Trinity Electros at two spoonfuls per feed or Hydrobase if the horse is at all tucked up. From Day 10 feed A24 BLACK GOLD at 25ml per feed or RACEBACK or R44. Continue to feed A24 BLACK GOLD for at least the next month or so or ideally on a regular basis to help maintain body defences especially when an individual horse's immunity can be easily compromised. Allow adequate daily roughage and suitably balanced bucket feed.
WEAVING Action Feed Y30 as soon as weaving starts as well as trying to identify causes.
WEAKNESS AND SLOW RECOVERY Action Where horses are slow to recover from a debilitating Virus or illness, reverse ratios in the blood persist and when things are not right feed L94 at 50 ml for 20 days and for the first fortnight RACEBACK and or TPGS-5. In the longer term feed A24 at 25 ml per feed twice per day.
WHITE LINE DISEASE Action - Paint Noof oil directly on to the affected area regularly and after the farrier has attended the feet. Also feed Formula 4161 for a period of not less than 3 months.
WIND SUCKING Action - Feed 50 ml of Black Gold A24 per day, this will help with the protection of the gastrointestinal mucosa and help neutralise acidity.
WINTER FEEDING Action - Feed Sweet Minerals 4187 everyday at 2 spoons per day. Ensure adequate roughage and grass is available and feed two bucket feeds per day consisting of chaff or chop, OB Pellets or a fibre pellet, Intracellular fats such as Goldenmeal for condition and muscle tone and carbohydrates such as oats or a cereal mix for added energy according to work requirements.
WORRY Action Besides all efforts to relieve the horse of cause to worry it may be worthwhile helping the problem initially by feeding Hydrobase for a week or so followed, if necessary with Mentax, M6 or M54 if under FEI rule, depending on the horse and the circumstances involved.
WORMING Action Worm as little as possible. The advice from the RVC substantiates this approach. The emphasis, they say, should be on control rather than total eradication. The reason for this concerns the horses immunity therefore always ascertain whether there is a need to worm before doing so. (In some countries this may be a legal requirement).
