G21. A tale of woe with a happy ending

G21 is a formula we use to help horses that pass excess brown fluid with homogenous or semi formed dung.

In one outstanding trial the problem was so bad that our subject horse Ted had to have his hind quarters washed four times a day. Ted had not improved after various medications and other treatments including pro-biotic etc so we put him on the tried and tested formulation G21.

His condition became tolerably better and this encouraged us to tweak the formula to make further improvements, unfortunately – the problem got worse! We then stopped everything and it became truly awful. Thinking half an apple was better than none we went back to the original G21 which unfortunately did not seem to work nearly as well as it had before.

After much thought and discussion and admittedly a little desperation we decided on a completely different tack, rang the owner and told her, she bravely said “Lets go for it we had nothing to loose”. So we made up a small amount of a new formulation we have now called G4125 (G25 for short) and sent it to her (with fingers crossed!).

We have been waiting all week for news. This morning we got a call – “Send more of Ted’s G25” the dung became perfectly segmented after three days and has remained so even during and after an all day event that before would have resulted in him being very bad.

Now we are fully aware that ‘one swallow does not a summer make’ but we can’t help being really pleased. The problem is not uncommon so we must keep looking for more improved solutions but if G25 keeps proving its worth G21 may soon be superseded.
