Mud Fever
Action – Sparingly apply Noof to lesions every few days and feed one spoonful of SCRATCHES FORMULA whilst the condition prevails. Feed Scratches at one spoonful per day at commencement of periods of risk to horses prone to Mud Fever and throughout danger periods. ROZEL MIXTURE can be helpful
If your horse gets Mud fever this autumn and winter be careful not to let it develop, when it becomes ‘wet’ it can be difficult to get rid of and can be a real discomfort to your horse. All horses can get Mud Fever but some horses are definitely more prone especially those not being fed sufficient dietary zinc, iron, copper and Vitamin E integral to the horse are natural healing mechanisms. Horses that quickly go septic from any odd abrasion are likely candidates and those with sensitive skin. If asked to help our current advice is as follows –
If you know from experience that your horse can be vulnerable and want to avoid it happening again –
1. Lightly spray the legs with Noof AZ Wash two or three times a week.
2. Include a measure of Scratches Formula 4134 in the feed every day.
If your horse has got some ‘Dry’ Mud Fever patches developing –
1. Apply Noof to the scabby patches by hand two or three times a week
2. Include a measure of Scratches Formula 4134 in the feed every day.
If your horse has developed ‘Wet’ Mud Fever-
1. Feed 3 measures a day of Special Mud Fever Formula 4135
2. Seek Vet’s advice as to treating with a suitable antibiotic
3. If able to lightly dust with Sore Powder and protect with a dry bandage.
