ELECTROS

Feed whenever dehydration is suspected adding quantities to each feed for several days or as directed. Always feed after sweating has occurred particularly in early training when sweat can often have a creamy consistency.

Further information -: When a horse is subject to periods of stress, of which heat stress is a prime example, the body cells are subject to osmotic stress. In such instances, water is pulled out of the cell because of a higher concentration of salts or solutes outside the cell. This loss of water causes the cell to shrink in volume and if this water loss is not corrected, the cell will eventually die. In addition, intracellular concentration of salts and other solutes increases, which depresses cell metabolism. The horse compensates for this movement in water by using membrane ion pumps which restore water and ion balance inside and outside the cell. The use of ion pumps has a very high energy cost to the horse, the consequences of which is that the proportion of energy used for maintenance increases dramatically resulting in tiredness.

ELECTROS helps by providing both the electrolytes needed and an osmolyte*.

*An osmolyte is a substance that aids the maintenance of water and ion balance in the cells. This, in turn, helps to prevent cellular dehydration and maintains cell function. The osmolyte portion of the formula accumulates in the cell to retain water. The use of the membrane ion pumps is reduced resulting in the energy required for maintenance being reduced, resulting in a saving in the energy needed for maintenance therefore leaving more for performance and endurance.
