MSM
methylsulfonylmethane (METH-el-sul-FON-il-METH-ane)
MSM is a naturally occurring organic source of biologically available Sulphur. Sulphur is an essential major element found in all living organisms and is present in body fluids and tissues. It helps the body heal itself, reducing inflammation, improving joint mobility and maintaining the integrity of lung tissue. MSM contributes sulphur to the disulphide bonds that are essential for the proper conformation of hair, horn and connective tissue. Hormones and antibodies receive sulphur from MSM. Osteoarthritis (OA) and physical strain can lead to joint pain and swelling. MSM has been shown to relieve pain associated with OA.
A common question is "How does MSM work?"
While more specific research is needed, it is believed that because MSM
contains sulphur, a vital element in the composition of virtually all connective
tissue, it is thought to help repair damaged connective tissue (for example, in
joints) rather than simply suppressing symptoms associated with joint
degeneration.
