Centella asiatica

Common Name Pennywort, Gotu cola, Marsh Penny, White Rot, Thick-leaved Pennywort (Grieve)

We set great store by this chemically complex herb. Its name in Sanskrit is Brahmi, meaning Wisdom or Consciousness and has a wide spectrum of benefits from indigestion to dementia. Described by Chinese physicians for its ability to promote longevity it carries a long standing reputation of being a wound healer and brain enhancer. It heals and promotes skin heath from inside out and has been shown to reduce leg oedemas in chronic venous insufficiency, reducing pain, cramping and swelling without serious side effects. It improves mental clarity, concentration and memory. Another herb Bacopa monniera, also called Brahmi with the properties of Centella asiatica influences brain transmitter levels and has a potent antioxidant activity the effects of which explains its use to improve memory whilst also helping with insomnia and anxiety. Animal studies show that Brahmi enhances both memory and mental performance.
